If you are a woodworking enthusiast you may have at one time thought about building a bed. There is no easier bed to start with than a simple twin bed. Luckily there are plenty of quality twin bed plans on the marketplace that will provide instructions, material list, diagrams and photos to help guide you along the way.

Perhaps you are thinking about building twin beds to help create more space in a bedroom or cabin. There are more ways than just placing the headboard against the wall with a side table in the middle, much like you find in a hotel room. You can creatively produce more space and develop style out of the beds with these 3 ways of arranging or decorating twin beds.

Convert to Day Beds:

This is perhaps the most practical way of arranging twin beds in a room and ideal for a dorm room or studio apartment. If the bedroom is also a living space then moving one side of the twin beds against the wall will open up the room and make the conversion process easier. When not utilizing the bed for sleep, one can set up the cushions or pillows against the wall on the bed to convert the design from a bed to a couch. If you are really creative and handy at woodworking, armrests can be built to pull up from the ends of the bed and locked into place.

 Murphy Twin Bed:

Usually Murphy beds, or beds that can be pulled from the wall, are full or double sized but smaller twin sized Murphy bed can also be built for smaller spaces. If there is one wall to spare in the room then this type of bed can really open up the living space and can be quite useful in studio apartments. Bed plans can be found for this type of pull down bed and must be carefully followed as it is important to build the bed securely and safely into the wall.

 Bunk Beds:

Although bunk beds may be the obvious way to create more room with twin beds, it is important to mention because it functions as such an excellent way to save space. Bunk beds can be found not only in kids' rooms, but in cabins, camp houses and dorm rooms. When building twin bunk beds keep in mind that it is important to build a stable ladder and secure guard rails for the top bunk. Creative designs can also be used when building bunk beds: princess castles for little girls, race cars for little boys and colorful paints and stencils for teenagers.

Hopefully when selecting a twin bed plan for your next bed building project, you keep these three different types of arrangements in mind. There is no need to settle with the standard twin bed setup. Be creative with the space you have and think how you can create more space when building twin beds.

With all the different bed or mattress sizes out in the market today, it is no puzzle why some cannot decide on what to purchase. There are twin beds, king beds and queen beds among the choices for the homeowner of today. So, how do we tell these beds apart from each other? It will all boil down to knowing their measurements. Twin bed dimensions are different from king size bed dimensions and queen bed dimensions. Once you have an idea on what the mattress is for, then you will be certain to pick out the correct size for your home.

Twin beds are also commonly referred to as single beds. I know, confusing. To set it straight, twin bed dimensions come in measuring 39 inches across and 75 inches long. The twin bed is the common size usually found in dorm rooms and bunk beds. Twin beds are perfect for use in guest rooms in the home. One can also put in a trundle underneath the twin bed to provide additional sleeping space in the room. Another plus for the twin bed is the availability of beddings in the market. One never has to worry about what to put on the bed. However, being a short bed, the length of the twin bed is often not enough for adults. In this case, one can also try the twin bed extra, which is about five inches longer than the standard twin bed.

Are the twin bed and twin bed extra still not enough for your needs? You can try fitting in a queen size bed or a king size bed. If you are furnishing for one of the main bedrooms in the house, these two will fit in perfectly. The queen bed measures in at 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. If two people sleep on it, that is about 30 inches per person. For the king bed, it comes in two varieties, the Standard King and California King. Both are bigger than the queen bed. Measuring at 76 inches wide by 80 inches long is the Standard. While for the California-size, it is 72 inches wide by 84 inches of length.

The choice of mattress is yours.
